Where: Seattle Central Library, Microsoft Auditorium, Floor 1, 1000 4th Ave. Seattle, WA 98104
Come behind the scenes with Seattle Times journalists who share their four-month journey of discovery along the great river of the West, the Columbia.
From the top of Grand Coulee Dam, to the Heart of the Monster in Nez Perce country, their work revealed the river’s origins in fire and ice, the scramble to satisfy competing needs and the cost of converting this wild river into hundreds of miles of engineered slackwater.
Join us for a special evening with environment reporter Lynda Mapes, who will explore the project that brings her nearly 30-year career at The Times to a close. She’ll be joined by colleagues who will share spectacular photos, video and illustrations.

Join us for a evening of maps, history, and futurecasting with Jeffrey Linn—artist, cartographer, and visionary. Referencing past geographies and projecting them into the future, his work skewers our nostalgia, and reveals what our warming world will look like as CO2 levels continue to rise.
Set inside the historic Georgetown Steam Plant—a relic of our fossil-fueled past and a Community HUB in transition for reimagined futures—this gathering invites us to confront the stark realities of climate change through Jeffrey Linn’s acclaimed "petrofuture" maps.
