This Week in Depth
🎨 crafty climate night: dinner + butterflies
When: Tue, Aug 26th, 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Where: 2301 1st Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121
This month at Soapbox Seattle (the city's most joyful community space), our theme is health x climate change—and we're closing it out with a night of reflection, imagination, and butterflies. 🦋
We’ll gather for dinner, conversation, and an art project inspired by the butterfly effect: the idea that small shifts can lead to big changes. We'll reflect on how individual and collective actions—whether it’s a bike ride, a breath, or a hospital policy—can ripple out into a healthier, more just world.
⚡️Women of Electric Vehicles GTSE Meet Up
When: Wed, Aug 27, 11:15am - 12:00pm
Where: Greater Tacoma Convention Center, 1500 Commerce Street, Tacoma, WA 98402
Join the Seattle WEVs for a meet up at the Green Transportation Summit & Expo on Wednesday, August 27 from 11:15 AM - noon! We’ll be meeting in the 5th floor atrium after the morning programming. We'll be playing networking bingo with a chance to win a special prize!
Seattle WEVs aims to connect and empower women to create change within and beyond the WEVs community. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet other women in their field, network, and learn about EV work happening in the PNW.
Attendance at the Green Transportation Summit and Expo is required to be able to participate in this meet up.
🔥 Too Hot to Handle? Managing the Ecological Impacts of Extreme Heat in the Northwest
When: Wed, Aug 27, 11:00am - 12:00pm
Where: Online (Zoom)
As consortium host of the Northwest Climate Adaptation Science Center (NW CASC), the University of Washington Climate Impacts Group will kick off its new webinar series by highlighting the findings from NW CASC's recent Deep Dive process focused on Managing the Ecological Impacts of Extreme Heat in the Northwest.
The NW CASC's Deep Dive team will present a review of current knowledge and practice around climate-driven extreme heat events and their impacts on Northwest species and ecosystems, focused on the 2021 Pacific Northwest heatwave. This synthesis is the result of the NW CASC’s 2025 Deep Dive workshop, which convened natural resource managers and scientists from Northwest Tribes, universities, non-profit and private sectors, and federal and state governments to review what is currently known (and unknown) about managing Northwest species and ecosystems in the face of future extreme heat events.
🔋 Turning Biomass into Batteries
