This Week in Depth
🚀 Founders & Funders Work Session
When: Wed, Jan 21, 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Where: 9Zero Climate Innovation Hub, 1215 4th Ave 15th Floor, Seattle, WA 98101
An interactive, high-energy working session designed to bring founders and funders together around the whiteboard to collaboratively explore opportunities, challenges, and potential pathways for growth.
Purpose
Create a shared space for founders to openly present their vision, traction, and key obstacles.
Enable funders to actively engage in problem-solving, offering strategic insight, industry perspective, and pattern recognition.
Align both sides on the biggest opportunities and the most pressing risks—beyond just the pitch deck.
💸 Lunch and Learn - The Hidden Economics of Stuff: How Recommerce is the Backbone of a Circular Economy
When: Thu, Jan 22, 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Where: 9Zero Climate Innovation Hub, 1215 4th Ave 15th Floor, Seattle, WA 98101
The recommerce market is quietly becoming one of climate's fastest-growing sectors, yet it remains largely untapped. At gone.com we are moving useful goods back into the economy, building the operational backbone that makes the circular economy work. Convenience already exists for buying new. What has been missing is an equally seamless way to buy what already exists.
In this lunch and learn, we'll share insights on closing the waste loop, key partnerships that enable circular systems, and where the future of recommerce lies.
🌐 Policy & Pints: Decoding the 2026 Legislative Session
When: Thurs, Jan 22, 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Where: Yard House, Seattle, WA (super close to Westlake Light Rail)
With the 2026 Washington legislative session just around the corner, the climate tech landscape is about to get a whole lot more interesting. From protecting Climate Commitment Act (CCA) funding to the new push for grid modernization and wildfire resilience, there is a lot to unpack. Join the 9Zero Policy Cluster for an informative happy hour to get the inside track on what’s coming down the pipeline in Olympia going into the next legislative session.
We are thrilled to be joined by Peter Moulton, one of Washington’s most respected voices in energy policy, to share his perspective on the upcoming priorities for climate, energy, and the environment. We’ll have a short “state of the state” talk from Peter followed by open Q&A and networking. Make sure to grab yourself a bite or a drink to listen in.A poetry reading featuring contributions from the Poets for Science anthology The Nature of Our Times, with readings by Washington state poet laureate Derek Sheffield and others, celebrating lands, waters, wildlife, and natural wonders.
🔋From Mine to Megawatt: Advancing Battery Supply Chain Transparency & Reducing Carbon Emissions
When: Thurs, Jan 22, 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Where: 9Zero Climate Innovation Hub, 1215 4th Ave 15th Floor, Seattle, WA 98101
Join The Pacific Northwest Battery Collaborative to learn what it will take to build a truly transparent and sustainable battery supply chain and what role each of us can play in making it a reality.
Global battery sales have been doubling every 2–3 years. Manufacturing capacity hit roughly 3 TWh in 2024, and if all announced projects come online, it could triple within the next five years. But this breakneck growth comes with complex challenges. Cobalt mining, critical for many battery chemistries, has been repeatedly tied to child-labor abuses. And the battery itself is often the largest source of embodied emissions in any battery-powered product.
📖 Storytelling for Change: A Creative Gathering for Climate Resilience
When: Sat, Jan 24, 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Where: Seattle ReCreative Georgetown, Seattle, WA
As the days are beginning to grow longer, we gather to share the stories that sustain us. Stories of Change: A Creative Gathering for Climate Resilience is a free community storytelling event exploring how we build resilience together, in the face of climate change.
Join Basilica Bio and featured speaker Eileen Lambert, a Latine climate storyteller and communications strategist, for an evening of reflection, creativity, and connection. Through storytelling, collaging, and building a community chapbook, we’ll explore what it means to live and care for one another in a changing world.
