🧊 Life on Thin Ice - National Geographic Live
When: Tues, Jan 23rd and Wed, Jan 24th at 7:30 PM
Where: Benaroya Hall, 200 University St, Seattle, WA
In the Arctic north, sea ice is synonymous with the sand in the desert. The ice is vital for transportation, for food, for living. And while the temperatures seem inhumane, the Arctic is teeming with life. Indigenous tribes call this frosty land home, but they’re not alone. Polar bears, musk ox, whales and caribou are some of the Arctic animals co-existing with more than 40 different ethnic groups in the north. Through beautiful images and awe-inspiring moments, National Geographic Live takes you on a journey with our first Indigenous National Geographic Explorer Kiliii Yüyan to understand the native peoples and their relationship to a frigid land and its animals.
⛈️ Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station Tour
When: Wed, Jan 24th from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
Where: 6185 4th Avenue South Seattle, WA
The 2030 District is kicking off our 2024 stormwater events with a tour of an important project in our own back yard: the newly constructed Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station. By treating up to 70 million gallons of combined rain and wastewater a day, this facility is making a direct impact on the health of our waterways and ecosystems. Before the station was completed in 2022, heavy rains would fill up the area's sewer pipes, sending polluted runoff and sewage through a pipe into the river.
"The Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station is now operating, cleaning millions of gallons of polluted stormwater runoff that would have otherwise flowed directly into the Duwamish River and Puget Sound. Our teams are busy optimizing the station so it can do the best job possible protecting public health and the environment with excellent water quality."
🐟 Reclaiming Relational Fisheries for Fish, People, and Place
When: Thurs, Jan 25th from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Where: FSH 102, University of Washington, Seattle
The Bevan Series is a popular annual event held one quarter each year, usually in the format of 10 weekly seminars. Join this Thursday to hear from Andrea Reid & Kasey Stirling from the Centre for Indigenous Fisheries from the University of British Columbia.
🏢 21 Acres Green Building Tour

You can bring your vacuums, lamps, computers, bikes, jewelry…anything you might have and one of our volunteer fixers will diagnose the issue and do their best to make it usable again.
