For this week: Head over to Seattle tonight to catch REIโs ๐ฅ Film Screening: 500 Days in the Wild about a womanโs 15,000 mile journey on the Trans Canada Trail. Tomorrow, join the ๐ Remake Seattle Community Monthly Meeting in Capitol Hill to learn about sustainable fashion and hear from a Summit Selvage speaker.
Fun day on the eastside planned for Saturday: join the educational and artistic โ๏ธ En Plein Air: Clouds and Climate Change session in Bellevue (if you got tickets in time, sold out currently), then head to Kirland for ๐ Forest Tour; Plant ID and Sustainable Foraging at Denny Park, then join the โก 21 Acres Green Building Tour to learn about green buildings in Woodinville. Heading into next week, listen to the presentation on ๐ Co-Creating the Seattle Transportation Plan by the City of Seattle and Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association in Seattle on Tuesday, followed by novel presentation ๐ S.W. Lawrence, Climate Dragon: Treachery, Pestilence, and Weirding Weather in Bellingham.

Funding Opportunity:๐RFP for Impact Fund Decarbon8-US 2024
E8 isย excited to share the Request for Proposal for their philanthropic impact fund Decarbon8-US 2024. Decarbon8-US is run by E8 in the summer months each year and is administered by their 501(c)(3) partner Realize Impact. This yearโs theme is Renewable Energy with a focus on innovations in power generation, alternative fuels, and technologies that significantly advance the decarbonization of energy.ย
Companies working in renewable energy that have generated revenue or have field trials/pilots in place leading to revenue in 2024, from Pre-Seed to Series A, and will have an open investment round from September to November 2024, are welcome to apply.ย Applications for Decarbon8-US 2024 will be considered on a rolling basis, with applications closing on June 21.

๐ฅ Film Screening: 500 Days in the Wild
When: Tues, June 18th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Where: REI, Seattle
Join Kula Cloth at REI in Seattle for a screening of 500 Days in the Wild: a film about a woman's journey on Trans Canada Trail This award-winning film documents, 50-year-old Dianne Whelan's journey on the longest trail in the world โ the 15,000 mile Trans Canada Trail. Filmmaker Dianne Whelan is the only person to complete the land and water trails of this epic journey. 500 Days in the Wild is a feature documentary that weaves intimate moments of reflection with adventure and stories of the people and communities that she encountered along the way.
๐ Remake Seattle Community Monthly Meeting
When: Wed, June 19th from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Where: 1716 Harvard Ave, Seattle
Remake is a non-profit organization advocating for climate justice and fair labor in the clothing industry. We are a community of fashion designers, enthusiasts, policymakers, students, teachers, and people working together to make the industry more equitable and sustainable - and having fun while doing it! โ๏ธ En Plein Air: Clouds and Climate Change
When: Sat, June 22nd from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Where: 1716 Harvard Ave, Seattle
This event is currently sold out, but if you snagged tickets in time, join for observational drawing and cloud watching in this workshop inspired by the outdoor painting practice of painter John Constable. We will learn about the dynamic, chaotic world of clouds, the important role they play in our climate, and their history as a symbol in art and popular culture. Co-Taught with Atmospheric Science Graduate Students Manali and Nelly at UW.
๐ Forest Tour; Plant ID and Sustainable Foraging
When: Sat, June 22nd from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Where: Denny Park, Kirkland
Join us for a forest walk with tour leader Ben Mardis! Ben will be guiding us through the OO Denny Trail to discuss native plant identification, invasive plant species and the environmental impacts they have on our local forests, as well as some fun identifications on wild edibles. Join us with the whole family or just yourself. Friendly pets (on leash of course) welcome. We will also have some parting gifts for you to take home, and enter you for a raffle prize.
โก 21 Acres Green Building Tour
When: Sat, June 22nd from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Where: 21 Acres Center for Local Food and Sustainable Living, Woodinville
Curious about how renewable energy technologies and green buildings contribute to climate action? You will get a behind-the-scenes look at the tools and technologies utilized by our LEED Platinum-certified building, and an understanding of the real connections between clean energy, water, and food, and how they influence our environment, health, and economy.
๐ Co-Creating the Seattle Transportation Plan
When: Tues, June 25th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Where: Seattle Municipal Tower
On April 23, 2024, the Seattle City Council unanimously voted to adopt the Seattle Transportation Plan. The Seattle Transportation Plan is a 20-year vision for Seattleโs streets, sidewalks, bridges, transit, and public spaces. The City completed nearly two years of community outreach with a focus on historically marginalized voices to craft a 20-year vision that supports all people within Seattle. Join WTS Puget Sound for a joint presentation on the engagement and outreach utilized for the development of the Seattle Transportation Plan featuring Joanna Valencia, the City of Seattle Seattle Transportation Plan Project Manager, and members from Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association. The one-hour presentation + Q/A will start at 5:30pm (check in begins at 5pm) and will be followed by a social time. Light food and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided.
๐ S.W. Lawrence, Climate Dragon: Treachery, Pestilence, and Weirding Weather
When: Tues, June 25th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Where: Village Books and Paper Dreams, Bellingham
Book synopsis: Jake Harper is a newly minted engineering professor at George Washington University. Intensely fixated on the weirding climate, he focuses on re-engineering North American grids. Abbey London is an infectious disease specialist, who confronts the spread of tropical diseases due to climate change. Together they operate her parents' Dragonfly. Jake stumbles upon evidence someone may be plotting an attack on nearby electrical infrastructure. Abbey faces the personal and professional threat of a novel virus infecting injection drug uses in our nation's capital. Set in the near future, with the first three chapters of Climate Dragon kicking off the three intertwining narrative threads.
S.W. Lawrence began writing 2019, based on years of lectures on energy systems, the climate system, and the electric grid. His background was in academic medicine, where he focused mainly on infectious disease and obstetrics. Sandy and his wife ran a bed & breakfast for eight years in the Pacific Northwest.
