🌾 From Refugee to Global Visionary: An Evening with Dr. Cedric Habiyaremye

Join Grow Further Founder Dr. Peter Kelly and crop scientist Dr. Cedric Habiyaremye for an inspiring discussion on how to build a food-secure future and promote economic security through climate-smart agriculture, research funding, and innovation.
Dr. Habiyaremye will share his journey from a childhood marked by hunger in Rwanda and a Tanzanian refugee camp, to his current role as a distinguished crop scientist on a mission to end hunger—while Dr. Kelly will share an innovative mechanism to fund agricultural research in the Global South to address food insecurity and climate change.

An opportunity for Seattle businesses to learn about successful greening projects installed in the Duwamish Valley! Join us for an evening of drinks, snacks, and conversation and sign up for FREE PROJECTS installed at your location, ranging from a tree box to a rain garden. We’ll work with you to design and install the project for free. All elements up to installation paid for by the project partners.
🏫 IslandWood’s Community-Centered Climate Action for 3rd-5th Grade Teachers

Have you ever wondered about the role of trees in relation to air quality? Learn how to use an engineering design focused action project to motivate and empower your students.
This course presents an air quality focused storyline that integrates Next Generation Science Standards with related social studies standards. Your students will build an understanding of how air pollution impacts other species, their community, and the climate. They will investigate their school grounds to inquire about and monitor air quality as well as learn about carbon emissions and activism in their community. Teachers and students will gain inspiration from the actions of local community members and then develop and implement an action plan to make a difference.

Remake is a non-profit organization advocating for climate justice and fair labor in the clothing industry. We are a community of fashion designers, enthusiasts, policymakers, students, teachers, and people working together to make the industry more equitable and sustainable - and having fun while doing it!

🏗️ Pioneering Net-Zero Energy & Carbon Building Certification

Ready to get involved in your local food system? Work alongside knowledgeable 21 Acres staff on a variety of seasonal restoration and farm projects that build soil health and climate resilience. Your help supports local food systems by increasing farm productivity; building habitat for animals, birds, and insects; decreasing stormwater runoff; and storing carbon. Activities include seeding, transplanting, weeding, mulching, bed building, and more! No prior farm experience required. All tools provided.

We're back, bringing together some of the most valuable contributors in the local fashion industry to discuss the importance of policy and sustainability in creating systemic change. The goal is to raise awareness about the biggest issues to date (ex: fast fashion), what we each are doing to address them here in Washington, and empower our community to get involved. There will be time to network and build relationships, especially with current and recently graduate fashion students. The event will be hosted in collaboration with Prairie Underground and the Remake Seattle Community.

🐋 Killer Whale Tales 20th Anniversary Celebration

🌱 Life After Death: Tour of the Recompose Human Composting Facility
When: Mon, May 20th from 4:45 PM to 7:30 PM
Where: Recompose, Seattle
Join Women and Climate’s Seattle Chapter for a tour of Recompose, the world's first full-service body composting funeral home! Recompose utilizes the principles of nature to return bodies to the land, sequestering carbon and improving the health of our natural surroundings. In this tour, we’ll see Recompose’s ceremony and community spaces, as well as a portion of the Greenhouse, where composting takes place. During the walk-through, we’ll learn about the end-to-end human composting process and the associated environmental benefits, as well as the origins of Recompose itself. The tour concludes with a seated Q&A session.
💰Show Me The Money: National Survey on Non-Dilutive Financing for Climate Tech Startups
Navigating all of the different capital options to build your startup is incredibly hard and often frustrating. The Streetlife Ventures team is building a shared resource and set of education sessions for founders on non-dilutive capital options like grants and debt to further support this community. Are you a climate founder that has raised grants or debt (or even just been confused but wanted to utilize them)?
Please fill out this survey and contribute to what will be the most transparent and useful source of information on non-dilutive funding for early-stage climate companies. We’ll acknowledge all contributors, and also feature founders on panels and case studies for their leadership in this area. Thanks for your time!
