Seattle Climate Tech: Sept 30 - Oct 6
Think and act local this week with a book reading 📖 to connect with our world "Close to Home," then help the Magnuson Park micro-climate by planting some trees! 🌲🌲
Hi Climate Community,
While things might be tough on the federal level and further from home, look for the local opportunities we can control to invest in and sustain our local communities—people, plants, and animals alike! 💪💪💪😊
As always, scroll down for the full list of upcoming events.
Cheers,

⚖️Climate Justice town hall with WA Senate Majority Leader Jamie Pedersen
When: Thurs, Oct 2nd, 6:30pm-7:30pm
Where: Mary Gates Hall, University of Washington, Seattle, WA
Did you know that the UW has a gas plant on campus and is one of the largest polluters in Seattle? There are plans to get UW off fossil fuels, bring cooling to everyone on campus and create hundred of green union jobs - but without funding, these plans are stuck on paper.
Our Climate & Worker cohort is tackling this problem head on. After surveying campus workers and students, we learned that heat waves and buildings without cooling are making people sick, disrupting learning, reducing staff productivity, and ruining research experiments. Now, we’re bringing those stories to key politicians and putting them in the hot seat.
Join us for a community assembly with WA Senate Majority Leader Jamie Pedersen, who represents UW’s district and will play a key role in determining if this critical project becomes a reality. Few people in Washington have more influence over how state funds are spent!
🌲Earth Runs Fall Planting Party
When: Sat, Oct 4th, 10:00am-12:30pm
Where: Magnuson Park on Sports Field Dr. Seattle, WA 98115
Fall Planting Party—you can come for part of the event or stay the entire time.
We will have some native trees and plants to install as well as some bark spreading to do.
Planting in this area will have a cooling effect on the micro-climate, it will help retain water and prevent excess water from flooding to the fields below, provide habitat for wildlife as well as take in and store over 5000 lbs. of Carbon! Not to mention naturally purifying the air and water that get filtered through the trees and plants.
Join the Fun!
